3 Permaculture Features That Have Nothing to Do with The Garden

Repair instead of refuse
Build energy smart

While Permaculture design is often associated with garden and farm design, it can be applied to many other aspects of human life and society. Here are three features of Permaculture design that have nothing to do with the garden:

  1. Energy Efficiency: Permaculture design emphasizes the efficient use of energy in all aspects of human life. This can include designing buildings to be passive solar, using renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power, and reducing energy consumption through insulation, efficient appliances, and lifestyle choices. By reducing energy consumption, we can reduce our impact on the environment and create more sustainable and resilient communities.
  2. Waste Reduction and Recycling: Permaculture design encourages the reduction of waste and the recycling of resources. This can include composting food and yard waste, using greywater systems to reuse water, and designing products and systems to be recyclable and biodegradable. By reducing waste and recycling resources, we can reduce our impact on the environment and create more sustainable and circular economies.
  3. Community Building: Permaculture design emphasizes the importance of building strong and resilient communities that work together to meet their needs. This can include creating community gardens, sharing resources and skills, and building networks of support and mutual aid. By building strong communities, we can create more resilient and sustainable societies that are better able to withstand and adapt to challenges such as climate change, economic instability, and social inequality.
